Join us for a leisurely two-hour tour through the Garden as we look and listen for the many bird species that frequent the area, while our experienced guides share their enthusiasm and knowledge about the Garden’s avian inhabitants.

In this September workshop, we’ll focus on bulbs and preparing your garden for spring. Learn the differences between bulbs, tubers and corms, and discover how to grow beautiful ornamental flowers for cutting gardens.

Led by Sangeeta Thomas, Learning Garden Coordinator, these beginner-friendly, monthly sessions cover a variety of seasonal topics to help build your gardening skills. 

Vancouver Landfill Gardens: Who Knew? (Rae Warner Speaker Series)

What role can a landfill play in supporting biodiversity? For more than 25 years, the City of Vancouver has nurtured habitat gardens at its Delta landfill, creating spaces where native plants, pollinators, birds, and other wildlife can thrive.  

Join horticulturist Sage Kosa for an inside look at these unique gardens and discover simple, practical ways to create more habitat in your own landscape. 

Journaling & Sketching the Garden’s Ponds

Join illustrator Bea Martin for a fun, beginner-friendly nature journaling workshop. Through easy-to-follow exercises and creative tips and techniques, participants will explore the Garden ponds and capture what they see and hear in pencil & paint—from turtles and dragonflies, to ducks and water lilies!

Botanical Drawing: Autumn Harvest (Online)

In this three-session online series, you’ll develop your drawing and watercolour skills to create accurate and expressive pictures of vegetables. Guided by artist and educator Katharine Dickinson, follow step-by-step demonstrations that show observation drawing techniques for capturing angles, proportions, and the unique shapes of plants. 

The Essentials of Mulching

In this session, Allison Luke will break down the 4 broad classes of mulch, compare their strengths and limitations, and explore current best practices. You’ll leave with a clear understanding of how to choose and use mulch for any landscape.

Storytelling and Hula Dancing

Join Poh Tan for a four-session exploration of hula, storytelling, plants, and culture. Learn the basic steps of hula and explore how this beautiful dance form can be used to share meaningful stories about plants, nature, and our environment.

Watercolour: Be Inspired by Nature

Get ready to roll up your sleeves and dive into the world of watercolour with Susan Pearson in this 6-session series, suitable for beginner to medium hobby painters. You’ll be guided through a hands-on journey of truly looking at plants and noticing details you may have missed before.

Learn to Grow Your Own Mushrooms (AM)

Chadd Bauman and Laura McKechnie’s class offers the unique experience of learning all about the fungal kingdom, including how they grow, what their benefits are to our health and surrounding world, how to grow at home, and so mush more! This class is beneficial for absolute beginners to intermediate fungal fans.

An afternoon session of this class is also available.
